WeatherCoats | NJ Weather - Dangerous Heat Will Give Way

Dangerous heat will be affecting us for Thursday and Friday with the Heat Index (them temperature it feels like) well into the 100s.  The NWS has issued an Excessive Heat WARNING from Noon on Thursday to 8pm Saturday for all of New Jersey.  The combination of Heat and Humidity for those three days will cause life-threatening conditions that may lead to Heat Illness.  PLEASE DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS if you must go outside.  Otherwise, stay indoors in the AC or take a dip in the pool.  Also, do NOT run a fan in the house without either opening the window or placing a bowl of ice in front of the fan.  Failure to do so will create a convection-oven-like effect and cause temperatures inside to rise even higher than outside.  As for the rest of the week, temperatures and humidity will go down as the week progresses.  For Tuesday, the GFS Forecast Model is suggesting the possibility of some rain, but the NWS forecast isn't calling for any, so we'll just have to look out for that.

Looking Ahead:  Temperatures remain fairly hot for next week, with a chance of some rain next weekend and during the following week.  There still stands a chance, however, that we could see a couple of nicer and cooler days later on.

WeatherCoats | Tracking Strong Storms in South Jersey

Some strong thunderstorms are moving into Atlantic and Cumberland counties currently (7/7/11 8:22pm).  Please be aware of these storms and seek shelter if you hear thunder!  Some of these cells are reported to have rotation in them.

UPDATE:  A Severe Thunderstorm WARNING now in effect.

WeatherCoats | NJ Weather: Some crazy weather today... how 'bout Friday?

This is a still image from a video I took earlier Thursday when a Severe Thunderstorm went over my house. I'd advise you to not do this at home, but due to the fact that I already did that since I'm probably crazy, I'll just say "Do this at your own risk" and "Don't be stupid like me".

As for Friday, it should be basically the same as Thursday, just with a lesser chance of a thunderstorm as the Low slowly but surly moves off shore.  Once it does move off shore, some nicer weather will be staying around for a bit, and it may even get summer-like in the near future!

WeatherCoats | NJ Weather: Severe Thunderstorm Warning for West Atlantic County

A Severe Thunderstorm WARNING is in effect for Western Atlantic County until 8:30pm.  The cell has the potential to produce hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain.  Move indoors immediately.  If you can hear thunder, you can be struck by lightning.

WeatherCoats | NJ Weather: Some Thunderstorms for Tuesday

The Storm Prediction Center of the National Weather Service is forecasting for a Slight Chance (approx. 15%) of severe weather in the Mid Atlantic Region for Tuesday, April 3rd.  The SPC says that damaging winds and hail from these storms are the main concern, but a couple of tornadoes can't be ruled out. 

For the New Jersey area, the SPC is forecasting for some thunderstorms to roll through the state during the late afternoon to evening hours.  There is also approximately a 5% chance for severe weather in the New Jersey region, so please stay alert.  

Thunderstorms, whether severe or not, are still dangerous and potentially destructive.  If you can hear thunder, you can be struck by lightning.  Seek shelter immediately if a thunderstorm is imminent. 

WeatherCoats | Severe Weather in the South

At least 200 people were killed in Wednesday's outbreak of severe weather in the south with reports of over 150 tornadoes, one of which is estimated to be an EF-4 Tornado that hit Birmingham Alabama in the early evening hours on April 28th.  For today the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center has put the Eastern Seaboard under a "Slight Risk" for severe weather.  Severe weather today will be nothing in comparison to the magnitude of yesterday's outbreak.  Let our hopes and prayers be with those in the South.
